The Role of New Media & Our Place in It

Locally and nationally we have seen how the entrenched systems of corruption have shattered the integrity of the media. All too often we’ve watched national news stories in frustration knowing that the media is telling an orchestrated story made to fit a particular political narrative.

Tragically the same thing has occurred with the media in Mercer County. The Daily Standard and WCSM follow the orchestrated press releases from the sheriff’s office, prosecutor’s office, and county commissioners. It’s all synchronized to control the flow of information to the public and to only inform the local community of the information they want you to know.

Thankfully, in recent years, we’ve watched alternative media sites challenge the traditional and expose the public to news that they would not otherwise receive. Our President, Donald Trump, has used alternative media to go around traditional media to get his message out to the public. Many may not agree with what our President says but at least by using alternative media to say what he believes without his message going through the corrupt medias filter.

We started CountyCoverUp.com to provide the citizens of Mercer County news without the filter. Many of our stories and investigation come for tips we’re given by the community. Where we are different from The Daily Standard and WCSM is that many of our stories are based on FOIA (freedom of information act) requested documents from various government entities and a team fantastic team of private investigators who dig into these documents, contact witnesses and inside informants. We do not “blindly” publish press releases from the local power structure which are often nothing more than propaganda statements. Instead, like in the case of the Fort Recovery Child Sex Hazing Incident (spirit stick), it is you, the public, who often tell us what to look into and where to find information. Once we do an investigation if we find the story to be credible, we report on it.

We want to thank our friend in this cause “The Mercer County Outlook.” The Outlook, like our website, wants to give the public access to news and information that is not typically found in the mainstream media.

We know that some in the community will not agree with what we report. That comes with the territory. Our role is not to win a popularity contest or agree with the political dogma of the county. Rather the purpose of CountyCoverUp.com is to shine a light on what’s going on in the county by investigating and reporting on the stories that many in the Mercer County power structure don’t want told. Why? Because light makes the darkness flee.
