Huge Local News Story – No Local Coverage

The U.S. News and World Report have an excellent article on Celina candidate for State Auditor, Keith Faber (read the article here). The US News reports that as Faber runs for the top bookkeeper in the state, he has had trouble, for years, paying his own tax obligations on time.

The U.S. News reports that Faber’s competitor has had his own legal issues but no matter what side of the aisle your political leanings lie the greater concern is that a national news source was the one that reported on Faber and his tax issues. Where was the local media (i.e. The Daily Standard or WCSM) on this story?

The Daily Standard and WCSM are supposed to be independent local media outlets, yet they seem to enjoy running featured stories that look like they were written for them by the local Mercer Count Mafia (i.e. Grey, Fox and Hinders). It is apparent that these supposed media outlets only want you to know what the power base has decided you are allowed to know. In reality, the local political machine seems to run no differently than how it does in the Soviet Union or in China where you’re only fed the news the government approves of.

Our position is this. It is not that you should or should not vote for Faber or any other candidate. But you should be provided the complete picture of a candidate, so you can, at the very least, make an informed vote. That is what most people rely on the media for – accurate news. Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly evident that the local media is controlling, in a coordinated fashion with Mercer County officials, what you the citizens can know. You have a right to know all of what is going on. If you don’t feel you’re getting the whole story or a complete picture from some of your local media outlets maybe it’s time to get your news somewhere else. Somewhere that is not under the thumb of locally corrupt officials.
