Rumors of Incident at St. Marys City Schools Investigated

Last week we received numerous requests to investigate several rumors that have been circulating about a supposed improper incident with a teacher and student at St. Marys City Schools that was being covered up. We started our investigation by contacting St. Marys Superintendent Bill Ruane. His honesty, professionalism, and transparency were refreshing. Also, his willingness to give us immediate access to the documents we FOIA requested was much appreciated.

Based on our review of the documents St. Marys provided and Mr. Ruane responsiveness it is clear there was no attempt at a coverup! In fact, based on the information we received, we believe Mr. Ruane handled a difficult situation very admirably. Mr. Ruane released a public statement on the incident, but we want to provide you with additional details by providing you with the written “Warning” letter given to the teacher by St. Marys (see attached).

We are glad to say that based on our investigation much of the rumors about the incident were just that; rumors. We want to encourage the citizens of St. Marys to support the upcoming levy. The honesty of Superintendent Bill Ruane in handling this issue speaks volumes of a man that deserves the support of the St. Marys community.

In support of our “What About the Children” campaign we encourage people to continue to send us tips on any incidences you hear about that could negatively impact the children of Mercer County. Sometimes, like in this case, we may find there was more rumor than fact. However, sometimes, like in the sex hazing case in Fort Recovery, the rumors are true, and we can help do something to stop it.
